Budget Update — Feeding Leviathan

County Executive Leggett notified the council this week that the county’s projected deficit for the next fiscal year is now up to a whopping $250 million. That’s not a problem of income, as revenues are expected to grow at a rate just under 4% (roughly keeping up with inflation). But the county projects that spending will increase at twice that rate — so the budget will continue to go further into the red. You can never have enough fuel for Leviathan.
